Ski Borovets, the oldest Bulgarian winter resort with a history dating back to 1896. Borovets lies at the foot of Mount Musala in the northern part of the Rila Mountains at an altitude of 1350 meters, 73 kilometers southeast of Sofia. Originally the resort was founded by Bulgarian kings who built a palace and hunting lodges there. Borovets is now a modern ski resort with upscale accommodations, attractive local restaurants and an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountains. When you "ski Borovets" you will have a wide range of ski runs and lifts to choose from to match your skill level.

Ski Borovets- Enjoy Major Ski Facilities Set in Unparalleled Natural Beauty

Ski Borovets, in the shadow of Bulgaria's tallest mountain, Mt. Musala, at the entrance of its largest, most beautiful national park, Rila National Park. Ski one of its many well kept and lift-equipped ski runs, totaling over 40 kilometers, descending from a high point of 2,560 meters, with a maximum vertical drop of 1,420 meters. Borovets' ski season runs from December through April with a snow cover of more than 1.5 meters. Borovets enjoys 150 days of snow cover every year, for the delight of winter sports' enthusiasts. The lift infrastructure of the resort is very well developed by drag lifts, baby tows, seat chain lifts, plus a gondola lift. 1 six-seat Gondola lift, 2 High Speed Quad Chair lifts, 1 Fixed Grip Quad Chair lift, 10 Surface ski lifts and 9 tow lifts.

Ski Borovets When the Sun Goes Down

Ski Borovets at night, not just to ski more, but to enjoy a new way to experience and perceive your time on the snow. In February and March the temperatures begin to rise, and the cold is not so overwhelming, but even in the coldest month of January, night skiing is not to be missed. Put on a couple more layers of clothing and go down the hill in a sea of lights surrounded by the dark of the alpine forest. Even the chairlift ride up the mountain at night is an experience in sight and sound.

Borovets Ski Schools & Beginner's Slopes

If you're new to skiing, and you want to ski Borovets on your winter holiday, you will find excellent ski schools with over 200 professional ski instructors who are fluent in English, German, French and Russian. Group and private lessons are available at reasonable rates. Beginners start the week on the nursery slopes but by the end of the week everyone is heading for the gondola lift and the more challenging runs.

Easy Drive from Sofia International Airport

The drive from the Sofia International Airport to Borovets is 72 km (45 miles, 1-1/2 hours) and rather direct. Rental cars are available at any of the major rental firms at the airport. As the number of rental cars available at the airport is limited, you should make reservations well in advance of arrival. For safe and worry-free winter driving on snowy and icy roads in and around Borovets, you should consider a car with 4-wheel drive or be equipped with snow tires or chains.
