Best Countries for 2008: Bulgaria
Bulgaria is without a doubt one of the best kept secrets for adventure junkies. The European beauty is renowned for its top ski resorts and Black sea coast - perfect for diving enthusiasts.
For those who enjoy a good bit of snow action, visit the ski resort of Bansko where skiing conditions are excellent and flights to the resort cheap. The popularity of Bansko is increasing rapidly and experts claim it is destined to become more desirable than other established ski spots in France and Austria.
Gavin Davis, who has recently returned from snowboarding at Bansko, describes Bulgaria "as a beautiful country".
"The town of Bansko is a great place for people seeking a party holiday, there's loads of cheap beer, a few nightclubs, strip bars, bowling alleys, ice rinks and plenty of restaurants - the local food is really nice."
As for Bansko, Davis says the resort is at a very low altitude compared to those of other European countries which changes the entire feel of snowboarding on the slopes. He says; "Because of the low altitude (963m in town& 2746m at the top) there are very condensed trees lining most of the slopes which means very little off-piste action - which is what most snowboarders crave for I think." However, he also says it's a great resort for beginners and would definitely consider going there again.
